BUFFALO RIVER ALPACAS

Shearing Day 2005

Alpacas are sheared once a year, usually in spring so they will be cooler during the summer.  Here are a few pictures from our shearing day on April 16, 2005. With 6 of us working at duties such as alpaca holding, fiber gathering, bagging & labeling, sweeping & cleaning the area, and, of course, shearing, it took about 7 hours to shear 14 alpacas.  The fiber has already been sent to a mill where it will be processed into yarn.
